Just before Jesus was to be crucified, prior to entering the garden, he prayed. In that prayer he said this: “...and this is eternal life; that they might know you, the one true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent.”
Jesus knew what eternal life was. And He knew well that it has to do with more than longevity. Eternal life is to be made one in heart and mind with Jesus Christ, the One God sent to us.
In a very real sense, becoming one with Him was the only way we could come to see the depths of the riches of the fathers love for us. For Gods love for the son happens to be the very same love He possess for us. And because God so identifies us with his son, He actually refers to the son as “The Son of man”. Yet we could not see all of this.
That we might see, He gave us His eternal life; this is the life that is in the father and the son also. His Spirit thus becomes our spirit. Only in this way, could we come to see and experience that love for ourselves; that eternal life!
This is a life of such quality and endurance, that it can be said of it: ‘It has no beginning and it has no end!’ — As Jesus put it, “We have been with Him from the beginning.” His origins are from of old, and His days will never end. ‘He Is’ from everlasting to everlasting! And we are in Him.
